Animals are shot, shot at, grabbed around the neck/throat, attacked, pursued, whipped, caged, chained up, killed, thrown down stairs, hit with objects, threatened. A story is told of a leopard killing a little girl. A man jabs a thorn into an animal's paw (squeal is heard). An animal falls out of a tree. A man throws a puppy into water to drown. An animal falls off a cliff to its death. A tortoise is forcibly ejected from its shell. People are hit with objects, pushed, shoved. Guns, spears, a cane, a pickaxe, a pitchfork are pointed in threat. Zulu warrior, people running from the law, bad people mentioned. A town is called Crook's Corner. An eagle catches a fish. A blade is thrown into a wall. Crocodiles leap out of water and snap suddenly at the camera. An aggressive baboon with sharp fangs bullies, threatens, intimidates, fights with other animals. Match-fixing, theft, deceit, arson. Animals growl, yelp, howl. Men cheer while watching an organised animal fight. Blood/gore: Animal corpses. Animal skulls and bones. Buzzing flies follow a mangy dog. A flash of red is seen when an animal is shot. A man has a peg-leg. An object is removed from an animal's paw (scream is heard). An animal collapses. A giant lump appears on animal's head. A taste for human blood is mentioned.

Bottles of alcohol are seen in a bar. A man drinks from a hip flask. An animal carries a bottle of alcohol. Champagne is mentioned. People bet on animal races, animal's fighting.

Name-calling, religious references and exclamations. Cultural, ethnic and gender stereotyping.

Africa, hunting, believing in yourself, friendship, loyalty, mother-son relationships, courage, devotion, bravery, self-respect, forgiveness, cave paintings, gold-digging, fortune-seeking.

Mother fatally wounded, killed. Smoke-filled bar, graveyard settings. Full moon, open fires, lightning, thunder, fog, waterfall. Stretched ear lobes, sweaty armpit stains, bird poo. Animal fur is worn. Based on classic children's story Jock of the Bushveld. Also known as Jock the Hero Dog. WILDLIFE: Dogs, puppies, chicken, monkeys, baboons, crocodiles, flocks of birds, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, warthogs, widowbird, owl, rhinoceros, weka, springbok, dung beetle, cattle, horses, buzzing insects, fireflies, rat, lion, ants, Martial Eagle, butterflies, fish, tortoise, bats, jackal. Ivory mentioned.

Magical African wildlife and countryside, rich colours. Interesting detail, texture. Good soundtrack. Talented voice cast. Warmhearted message hidden in there somewhere.

Poorly rendered animation, ordinary CGI, corny plot, sluggish, tawdry. Scenes of animal violence and nasty humans may frighten young children. Feels second-rate. Won't entertain adults. Use of international accents for South-African voices is frustrating.
