Awe-inspiring set pieces, impressive CGI, vivid action, satisfying monsters, low-key feel, strong performance from Bryan Cranston, striking cinematography, clever direction, satisfying spectacle, climactic finale, intricate attention to detail, Godzilla gets heaps of screen time. A respectful update of the classic.

Humourless, predictable, two-dimensional. Stock characters, dull acting, sparse script, heavy-handed score, not enough screen time from Bryan Cranston, weak female roles, wasted cast, baggy middle act, numerous plot holes and inconsistencies, lacks suspense.
