  • HIDDEN EXTRAS:

Wintry NYC setting. Head x-rays are seen. Blood sample, MRI, Parkinson's disease discussed. Horses, horse-hair. A deceased wife is frequently mentioned (photos of her and a mirage are seen). Abortion is mentioned. Foot massage. One high camera angle from a building roof-top showing street-view below. Also known as A Late Quartet.

  • CRITICS LIKE:

Strong performances from an exceptional cast. Plenty of screen time is given to the actors playing their musical instruments (convincingly). Beautiful cinematography. A real sense of emotion and conflict is conveyed.

  • CRITICS DON'T LIKE:

The coincidence of so much drama occurring to the group all at once (after twenty-five years of friendship) is a little unlikely. Could do with an injection of humour to lighten things up.
