    Detainees are interrogated using torture methods, including dog collar, ropes, chains, hoods, handcuffs, waterboarding, suffocation, starvation, force-feeding, deprivation of liberty, heavy-metal music, cramped confinement, cages, harassment, truth manipulation, isolation, sleep deprivation, bribery, yelling, threats, hitting. Terrorist attacks occur in public places by suicide bombers, explosive devices and close-range gunmen using hanguns, machine guns, submachine guns, rifles and snipers. Pictures of vehicle carnage and building rubble are shown. A helicopter crashes. Terrorist plots and incidences are discussed. Audio (phone calls and radio communication) from 911 victims are heard. Characters argue in frustration and anger. Blood/gore: Blood is seen on victims during interrogations and shootings, pooled on the ground/staircases after attacks and splattered on walls. Death/injuries are discussed.

    Well cast with good performances. Location and set design are excellent. The film is careful to avoid being anti-Islamic or pro-American gun-ho.

  • CRITICS DON'T LIKE:

    International terrorism is not pretty. The film doesn't explain its premise so if you don't know what happened on 11 September 2001 or who Osama bin Laden is then Zero Dark Thirty will make little sense.
